EFOMP hereby announces a new Working Group (WG) entitled “The involvement of Medical Physics Experts in the life cycle of medical devices”. The WG will operate under the Professional Matters Committee from 1st of December 2020 to 1st December 2022.
The rationale of the WG: This working group will work together to publish EFOMP Policy Statement no 17: The Involvement of Medical Physics Experts in the life cycle of medical devices. The importance of medical physicists’ involvement from the very beginning of the process of the procurement of new medical devices in our hospitals and clinics cannot be understated. There are no clear EU guidelines on this topic. This policy statement will inform healthcare managers and government officials on the many benefits of having MPEs involved in this process and identify some of the key areas where our expertise is invaluable over the life cycle of medical devices from specification, procurement, acceptance testing and ongoing quality assurance. The involvement of medical physicists, who are experts in medical devices, over the life cycle of this equipment can help improve patient safety but can also be more cost effective.
The chair of the WG is Dr. Wim van Asten (NL)
All those who have experience and knowledge on this topic and who wish to participate in this working group are asked to send their applications together with CV (in English) to the UAMP e-mail address: uamphs@gmail.com. (no self-nominations are allowed, nomination is accepted only through national organizations of medical physicists).
The term for accepting nominations is from 27th July 2020 to 25th October 2020.
