On April 25, within the framework of the International Medical Forum 2018, a Round Table of members of the expert group of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in the areas of “Radiology. Ultrasound diagnostics. Radiation therapy. Radiology. Radionuclide diagnostics”. Many important issues were discussed, including those related to medical physics.
The event was attended by representatives of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate and the Ministry of Health.
The event was also attended by representatives of the Ukrainian Association of Medical Physicists Zelinskyi Ruslan and Bezshiyko Oleg.
Ruslan Zelinskyi said during his speech:
1. There is an urgent need for cooperation of public organizations with the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation, including in the direction of international cooperation. This is due in particular to the lack of open information on IAEA activities, to which the DIAR sends representatives from Ukraine, who are also elected according to unknown criteria. As a result of this approach, there is no clear strategy for action by Ukrainian delegates on cooperation with the IAEA, as well as reports to the professional community on what ideas and proposals from Ukraine have been voiced and what decisions have been made.
2. Recently, the issue of dose optimization in radiological procedures has been raised quite often in the world. In Ukraine, this issue is extremely problematic and can be qualitatively solved only if medical physicists are integrated into diagnostic radiology, which, according to international recommendations, should play a key role in dose optimization in diagnostic procedures.
3. Members of the expert group of the Ministry of Health were also asked to directly involve medical physicists in all processes related to our field of activity (changes in legislation, writing qualifications, qualification requirements, etc.) and to move away from existing practices. earlier, namely to refer these issues to the competence of radiotherapists.
As a result of the discussion, it was decided to hold working meetings of public organizations (including medical physicists) with the executive authorities in the near future in order to establish cooperation.
It was also agreed that the draft amendments to the classifier of professions, which will soon be submitted for approval to public authorities in order to harmonize Ukrainian legislation with European, and which concerned doctors (radiologists, radiation oncologists, ultrasound doctors) will be supplemented by paragraphs relating to medical physicists.
Follow the news from UAMP, take part in discussions, express your thoughts and ideas, ask questions. We are happy to answer you!
Sincerely, Ukrainian Association of Medical Physicists.
