Introduction of a unified approach to dose determination in remote radiation therapy
On July 12, 2018, at a meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group of Experts on Radiation Protection in Medicine, representatives of the Ukrainian Association of Medical Physicists once again proposed to approve in Ukraine a single approach to determining the absorbed dose in radiation therapy based on IAEA TRS 398.
The Ukrainian Association of Medical Physicists undertook to provide recommendations on the practical application of this protocol, after which the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) informed all medical institutions that use IRS in radiation therapy about the mandatory use of the protocol. Currently, the IRS license specifies the requirement to use the IAEA TRS 398 protocol to determine the absorbed dose during radiation therapy.
This solution should lead to improved calibration accuracy of radiological equipment and, consequently, to the quality of patient care.
Currently, the TRS398 protocol is available in three translations.
